Memorial Day Weekend Picks
All around southern California, there are options to celebrate the long weekend. Many cemeteries feature tributes on Monday with gun salutes and a laying of the wreaths to remember those who gave all. The weekend also marks Fiesta Hermosa, a three-day event founded in 1972 which has become the biggest arts and crafts event in the region. A carnival and petting zoo are also on hand for kids from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.
You’ll also want to check out the 44th Annual Topanga Days Country Fair at 1440 North Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Throughout the weekend, the annual fair (nearly 50 years old!) features fun for all with food vendors, games, and live performances. A parade, face painting and more family fun awaits.
Long, Lazy Weekends
The annual Valley Greek Festival at 9501 Balboa Boulevard in Northridge is another popular event. Delicious Greek cuisine like souvlaki and moussaka are dished up throughout the weekend along with artisans showcasing their work. Enjoy live music, folk dancing, and a tour of St. Nicholas Church. Admission is just $3 and parking is free.
Now in its fourth year, the MAINopoly: Taste of Main Street in Santa Monica showcases the businesses of Main Street. Proceeds benefit local charities, and you’ll get a chance to see the streets turn into a massive, immersive Monopoly game board for the whole weekend. Restaurants are serving up specials, and pop-up entertainment will keep you on your toes.
