Go to Jail Free in Globe

This haunting season, visit one of the spookiest places in Globe—the Gila County Historic Jail! Officially listed on the National Haunted Registry, you can request a special, private evening tour, or attend the free tour every second Saturday of the month. October is a particularly popular time, especially if you want to request a ghoulish evening tour on Halloween weekend.

The historic jail opened in 1910 and continued to serve the county until 1981. The cellar doors were imported from the notorious Yuma prison, and the jail has an incredible history that you have to see (and hear!) to believe. The second Saturday tours take place every half hour between noon and four and is chilling fun for the whole family.

Make a Day of It!

The historic jail is located in downtown Globe and is walkable to a number of other shops, restaurants and cafes. Right around the corner is Hollis Cinema 4, and the Globe Public Library is just two blocks away. Take a stroll to the Hill Street Mall, or check out the nearby Pickle Barrel Trading Post.

You’ll find the popular Copper Country Rendezvous right up the street, where their massive “deli sammiches” take the cake and take care of your appetite! Try the Double Decker Grilled Cheese for piles of delicious gooey-ness or the Triple Sided Grilled Cheese that has caramelized on the outside to blend sweet and savory.
