New Orleans knows how to throw a party, and they go all out for Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. It battles Mardi Gras for one of the biggest parties of the year, with plenty of options for kids and adults alike. Check out one of the many haunted tours around the French Quarter and Uptown, and don\u2019t forget about touring the famed cemeteries where you can hear hundreds of stories about the \u201cCities of the Dead\u201d from skilled storytellers.<\/p>\n

Visiting a voodoo shop is a must any time of year, but in October you\u2019re in for a special treat. Maybe the High Priestess of 19th<\/sup> century New Orleans Marie Laveau will visit for a spell, and shop owners might just teach a few of the safer incantations. Vampire-specific shops are also an option!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n All Voodoo Dolled Up<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n No costume shops can compete with New Orleans, and you can find the perfect outfit whether you\u2019re going simple or all out. Costumes are highly encouraged and sometimes required at bars, clubs and restaurants around the city. You can also slip into one of the numerous street parties, like the Faubourg Marigny annual fete on Frenchmen street.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The LGBT community hosts one of the biggest bashes of the year at the French Quarter on Bourbon and St. Ann streets. All proceeds benefit Project Lazarus. There\u2019s also the Krewe of Boo Halloween parade on October 28, or the Audubon Zoo\u2019s Boo at the Zoo for trick or treating. The Louisiana Children\u2019s Museum hosts parties for little ones as well.
