Located in the Central Business District at the corner of Andrew Higgins Blvd and Magazine St. this museum focuses on the contribution made by the United States in WWII and in particular the Battle of Normady. Formerly known as National D-Day Museum, it was designated by Congress in 2003 as \u2018America\u2019s National World War II Museum\u201d and continues to have an affiliation with the Smithsonian Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The National World War II Museum opened June 6, 2000 on the 56<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of D-Day. Featuring numerous permanent exhibits such as the D-Day beaches, Pacific D-Days galleries, and \u00a0Planning for D-Day the museum also features special exhibits and displays on the second floor. The third floor consists of a viewing deck for hanging aircraft. The US Freedom Pavillion: The Boeing Center I sthe newest and largest building on the museum\u2019s campus. A collection within the pavilion displays various aircraft to include the B-25J bomber, TBF Avenger and P-51D Mustang.<\/p>\n<p>With all the history on display, an interactive submarine experience, and an award-winning 4-D film, visitors need at least a half day to a full day to see all the amazing things the museum has to offer.
