Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium

Another offering from the Audubon Nature Institute, this small gem is tucked into the U.S. Custom House on Canal Street and introduces visitors to the biggest museum just for butterflies and insects. As you explore the Louisiana swamplands from a new perspective, you can check out the awards show for bugs and meet thousands of butterflies in a sprawling Asian garden. CNN calls the garden a “top museum for you and your kids,” and with new exhibits coming into town all the time, it’s easy to see why.
A Pretty “Fly” Museum
At Boudreaux’s Bait Shop, you’ll get up close and personal with the local bugs of the wetlands. Preserved and live specimens are on hand, and (if Boudreaux isn’t fishing!) visitors are treated to a one-of-a-kind informational session with a regional bug guru. You can also eat a bug, thanks to innovative on-site chefs who whip up tasty dishes featuring creepy crawlies.
