A guide to the greatest things to do in New Orleans
Whether you are looking for a fantastic party or a deep dive into history and art, there is also undoubtedly something for everyone. Every type of traveler will find something to their liking in New Orleans. Among our top choices are the Cabildo, the Historic New Orleans Collection and the New Orleans Jazz Museum.
Lafitte Greenway
This 2.6-mile linear park, which extends from City Park to the French Quarter’s edges, is a green oasis in the middle of the city. Playgrounds, art installations, including sports fields line the bike and pedestrian trail. Experience the Crescent City Farmers Market on the Greenway on Thursday afternoons. Take advantage of one of the many outdoor fitness classes offered for the whole week.
Crescent Park
Take a stroll along the river’s Crescent Park, which is roughly a mile and a half long, while you are in Bywater. Climb the “rusty rainbow” (a gigantic steel arch spanning railroad lines) to take a breeze, have a picnic, admire roller skaters at Mandeville Wharf, or perhaps sit back and watch the huge ships pass by.
Bacchanal
Bacchanal is located near Crescent Park’s far end. This wine shop/hangout retains its local charm and unique hideaway ambiance despite the fact that it is no longer a locals’ secret. The spacious back terrace is perfect for unwinding with a bottle of wine and a cheese platter. Live music adds to the experience of staying here.
