Coming Up: Southern Decadence

See the French Quarter in all of its flamboyant glory!

Coming Up: Southern Decadence

Southern Decadence is one of the biggest NOLA events of the year, and it will be happening August 29th until September 2nd!  Known as “Gay Mardi Gras”, it’s a 5 day celebration that exemplifies the best and most over-the-top of New Orleans.  2019’s theme is “fruit salad” and if you’re attending, you’ll want to wear polka dots and pinstripes to fit in.  Money raised at the event will be going to support Odyssey House, which provides support to people battling addiction.

General Activities

Most bars in the French Quarter will be open or actively participating, so expect plenty of opportunities for dancing and partying.  On Saturday evening, attend the Bourbon Street Extravaganza concert, featuring Ultra Nate, Jeanie Tracy, and Beth Sacks, then head to the Bourbon Pub for the after-party with DJ Ivan!

Sunday is one of the biggest days of Southern Decadence, as it’s the day of the Walking Parade.  Starting at the Golden Lantern, the parade makes a (sometimes unplanned) path to the Bourbon Pub.  Whether you dress up or dress in costume, make sure you go all out while you strut your stuff.  Afterwards, dance until morning in the pub, or in many of the other bars that stay open 24/7 during Southern Decadence.

While you’re in New Orleans, consider checking out Southern Decadence – it could be the most fun you’ve ever had!
